Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui announced this at a crowded press conference at his office here on Tuesday. IGP Sindh Asad Jahangir Khan, Sindh Information Advisor Salahuddin Haider and other senior police officials were also present.
The Home Minister appealed to people not to show any reluctance to approach the police because the government and law-enforcement agencies would be helpless to take action without the support of masses.
"These unscrupulous elements are indulged in unlawful activities and are doing a roaring business without any fear of action," he said, and added that initially, the cases would be lodged against these elements on the ground of cheating, once the public complaints received against them.
Rauf Siddiqui pointed out that it has been decided to promulgate fresh laws and ordinances to deal with such crimes sternly.
He said he would take up the issue in the provincial assembly, before the provincial cabinet and would also discuss the issue with the Sindh governor for promulgation of an ordinance, seeking ban on activities of persons fleecing people in the name of exorcism and added their wall-chalking would also be erased.
The provincial minister announced that DIG Special Branch Wajid Durrani would be supervising the action in this regard.
Preliminary estimates suggest total number of such people in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur at 91 while there are more than 400 such people in whole Sindh.
On the occasion, Sindh Information Advisor Salahuddin Haider informed that his department was looking for laws whether such advertisements by charmers, quakes and exorcists were legal or illegal and within two days, a policy in this regard would be communicated.
